The Tuscany Pride 2024 It will take place Saturday 7 September in Lucca, the city chosen for this year’s edition which carries forward the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights in the anti-fascist and pacifist tradition of the region. With the motto “Indomitable and Fierə“, the Tuscan queer community is preparing to make its voice heard, denouncing state homolesbobitransphobia and institutional violence: “A government that uses the bodies of women and LGBTQIA+* people as an ideological battleground to gain political consensus, represses dissent by force and undermines the foundations of our democracy which should be based on rights and not privileges.”
The queer community, explains Toscana Pride, is “indomitable” because he refuses to conform to the imposed norms, similar to the panther that does not allow himself to be tamed to please others. And then “proud” as he has raised pride as his banner, learning to walk with his head held high and his back straight, especially in these times when he is under attack and the subject of discrimination.
This year’s Pride is at the center of debate due to recent controversy. The post on Instagram by Toscana Pride, announcing the date, sparked attacks. The “Patriots Network” group recently posted offensive posters bearing the slogan “Stop gay pride, Lucca doesn’t want you“. This reaction comes in an already delicate context, with criticism from the centre-right mayor of Lucca, Mario Pardini, who called the choice of the date of the parade “inappropriate”, due to the overlap with other local events.
Despite the challenges, Toscana Pride continues with determination. The response from the organizing committee was clear: “We are there and will always be there where Pride is needed most.
Today more than ever, we are determined to invade the streets of Lucca with our bodies, our fabulousness and our fagotism.
We may be uncomfortable and inappropriate for some, but we will always be indomitable and proud for all those people who will be next to us on September 7th at Tuscany Pride to tell those who don’t want us that there is no place for hate here.
It is not possible to stop the creative anger, the hunger for justice, the demand for rights, the desire for freedom of thousands of people. We are the tide that will change this country. Join us, let’s do it together.
Let’s show the world that Lucca is on the side of rights.”
