In the rigid ceremonial of the party for the 250 years of the Financial Policethere is also room for emotion. That of the financiers in service who receive the commendation for having distinguished themselves in investigations and special tasks, and that of the financiers now discharged for years proudly posing in front of the plaque, unveiled on this very occasion which, at the entrance to the Donini Barracks, pays homage to the military valor of the 1st mobilized Battalion, sacrificed in the massacre of Corfu-Cefalonia in 1943.
«It is a tribute that I am particularly fond of», remarks Colonel Giovanni Fontana, commander of the Bergamo Yellow Flames since 2022. He says he is equally proud of the approach and method used by his men: «We are transversal and vertical in all our non-profit activities. we dedicate ourselves to a single sector or a single phenomenon, but we analyze every single aspect by breaking it down into the various areas. It is a complete job that is much more satisfying than sectoral intervention.”
As for the Bergamo situation, Colonel Fontana does not express particular concerns. «We are very busy, yes – he assures us -, but we are happy with the results achieved. We are called to carry out without fanfare a task much more complex than one can imagine, because the economic crime it has no delineated boundaries, it does not always behave the same way and it is increasingly aggressive. This is a subtle phenomenon that is increasingly wedged into productive territories, such as that of Bergamo, and which is often linked to the commission of tax fraud even of a significant amount. The concrete possibility of guaranteeing competitiveness and economic wealth of the territory, jobs and entrepreneurial and personal dignity, in compliance with the rules, consciously derives from the commitment we make every day in all the fields of our competence. Military events like those of Corfu-Cefalonia, which we wanted to honour, have contributed to forging the tradition of the Corps, a solid foundation on which it is now up to us to build the future”.
