Second edition of the Piero Siena Award

The Italian culture division presents the second edition of Piero Siena Award. Recognition every two years, conceived in 2021 and launched the following year, by Paola Tognonintends to valorise female and male visual artists who have worked in the South Tyrolean territory over the last twenty-five years with the support of theCulture office of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

The 2024 edition presents an innovative structure to support and promote contemporary artistic research. The two winning artists are awarded a cash prize and the acquisition of the works in particularly important institutional collections. AND organized, in fact, with the collaboration of Donnaregina Foundation for contemporary arts (Museo Madre di Napoli) which will acquire the first prize, and the Museum – Museum of modern and contemporary art of Bolzano which will acquire the second prize.

“An initiative of great interest, very important and significant for our artists and for their promotion outside the borders of South Tyrol”, said the councilor for Italian culture, Marco Galateo.

Regarding the evaluation of the works, one first jury composed of Frida Carazzato, scientific curator of the Museion, Valentina Cramerotti, curator and vice-president of the Cooperativa 19 of Bolzano and Paola Tognon, art historian and critic, has drawn up a short list of 10 artists. Transmitted to one second jury formed by the directors of the museums involved: Eva Fabbris, director of the Donnaregina Foundation for contemporary arts and Bart van der Heide, director of the Museion who, with Paola Tognon, will identify the two winners of the 2024 edition.

At the end of July, and until the end of September, at Trevi Centre of Bolzano, in collaboration with the two institutions involved, the announcement of the winners and the presentation of their work. In autumn the presentation of the Award at the Madre Museum in Naples.

The dedication to Piero Siena, art historian and manager, founder and first director of the Museion “wants to be a tribute to a free man, a master, a great figure for contemporary art, architect of local cultural development and the prestige of the Museum of Modern Art and contemporary of Bolzano”, stated the director of the Italian Culture Department, Antonio Lampis.
