From 25 to 30 June Rome comes alive with Dominio Pubblico – Youth Fest 2024, which will kick off at the Teatro India. This multidisciplinary festival, now in its eleventh edition, offers an agenda full of events including theatre, dance, circus, music, cinema and visual and digital arts. The event is organized by DAP – Participatory Artistic Direction, made up of young people under 25, and is recognized for its ability to train new generations of spectators and cultural operators.

Inauguration and Opening Night

The Opening Night of the Public Domain – Youth Fest 2024 will be held on June 25th at the India Theater with an evening full of events. Starting from 6pm, an opening party will take place during which the detailed program of the festival will be presented. Numerous authorities and institutions will participate in the opening ceremony, including Francesco Siciliano, President of the Teatro di Roma Foundation, and Raissa Brighi of the US Embassy.

The highlight of the evening will be the show “PUF!” by the African-American playwright Lynn Nottage, the only woman to have won the Pulitzer Prize twice and nominated for the Tony Awards. Translated into Italian by Valentina Rapetti and directed by Paola Rota, “PUF!” subverts the traditional narrative of domestic violence, giving voice and discursive power to women. Lynn Nottage will be present at the staging of her show, which will take place at 8.30pm.

A week of artistic events

From 25 to 30 June, Dominio Pubblico – Youth Fest 2024 will offer a full program of shows and artistic activities selected and coordinated by the DAP – Participatory Artistic Direction. More than 130 young artists will present over 30 events, spanning a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines. Among the events of particular interest, the MINDSCAPES project stands out: Artist Visions – VR Experience, curated by Riccardo Galdenzi, a virtual museum where the works of five artists dialogue with virtual reality.

Other noteworthy events are the film festival “U25 Corti Estesi” and the urban walks “MA®T – ANIMA URBIS,” which will explore Roman neighborhoods through street art. Furthermore, the “Beers and Stages” podcast, managed by the U25 editorial team of Dominio Pubblico in collaboration with the travel podcast platform Loquis, will offer a fresh and young perspective on the events of the festival.

The Public Domain project

Promoted by Roma Capitale – Department of Culture and winner of the biennial Public Notice “Estate Romana 2023-2024”, Dominio Pubblico – Youth Fest is a project that aims to train spectators and active cultural operators. The heart of the project is the DAP – Participatory Artistic Direction, made up of young people under 25 who manage all aspects of the festival, from production to promotion.

The festival is created in collaboration with SIAE and has the Teatro di Roma Foundation as its main partner, with the Teatro India as its main venue. Since 2015, the project has obtained recognition from the MiC – Ministry of Culture for its educational and cultural value. Furthermore, over the years, Dominio Pubblico has launched initiatives such as MA®T – Millennials A®t Work, focused on urban redevelopment through street art. This experience has generated a community of over 1,000 young people, with around 10% of them pursuing careers in the cultural sector.
