New cemetery… among mosquitoes, insects and tall grass

Viterbo – “As soon as you enter you’ll eat pizza… or you’ll kill yourself with pinches”. New cemetery, among mosquitoes, insects and tall grass all around. The confidence comes from a visitor who goes to visit their loved ones. Visitor who wishes to remain anonymous. A visitor who then, passing through it, at the new cemetery, seems to have no faults.

The photos show the state of the art of the cemetery north of the city of Viterbo, next to the monumental one. The San Lazzaro. Taking a tour instead gives you a sensation, because every now and then some slapper sets out to kill something that stings you. And once outside, after the tour, the mark left by the nails due to the itching is noticeable on the skin.

The new cemetery is at the end of the city, close to the Cassia, the one that leads to Montefiascone, towards Lake Bolsena and then to Tuscany. As soon as you enter, on the left, next to the square, there is a very tall crane that occupies the view and has been there for years. Flanking it, on both sides, are two steps of now dry grass. And God only knows what is in the middle, what lives, crawls and lodges there.

Nestled between the steel joints of the ramps leading to the burial niches, a few nests of some beast, pigeon poop and a bit of neglect. Maintenance in these parts sometimes almost seems to leave something to be desired. Humidity and plaster so-so. Next to the rubbish bins, in a ravine of the cemetery, there is also a sort of rubbish dump, piled there as best as possible. A little further on, another avenue. A boulevard of dry grass.

Even the elevator that takes you to the floors, and which should make it easier to visit your loved ones, is certainly not the best you expect if you look closely. In fact, it seems plastered and degraded. Inside, what appear to be rusty nozzles. There is little or no desire to set foot in it, although it works.

Finally, last but not least, the usual ribbon, white and red. What tells you: you can’t go here. It can be seen from above, on a sort of balcony, with wooden planks acting as a parapet.
