Lamezia Terme – The municipal council of Lamezia has approved the 2023 financial statement, or the final budget of the institution. Present, 18 councilors and two auditors, Docimo and Lucia. 13 councilors voted in favor and 5 against. At the beginning, after the usual communications from the president of the Assembly, Giancarlo Nicotera relating to the minutes of the previous meeting and the memory of Vincenzo Russo former auditor, the budget councilor, Sandro Zaffina illustrated the statements of the various items of the Report with the aid of slides. The numbers in the financial statement, as regards the most significant parts, speak of current expenses (total residual liabilities 26,464,504 euros), capital expenditure (29,004,739 euros) and transfer items (700,323 euros), for a general total of expenses which saw a residual liability as of 1 January 2023 of 52,570,118 and a total of residual collection liabilities to be reported equal to 56,169,567 euros. Therefore, an administration surplus that is determined starting from the cash fund on January 1st, 26,815,341 euros. Collections for 65,723,234, total payments equal to 59,464,258 euros. Cash fund as of December 31st equal to 33,074,318. Taxes collected, 36,671,822 euros out of 46,922,686 that had been ascertained. In his speech, councilor Zaffina underlined the “positive trend in the last 5 years”, effectively denying some news that “is published by some newspapers that talk about gaps or defaults”, and pointing out that the Administration’s result at 31 December 2023 was 96,807,462.01 euros. Zaffina then commented by stating that the “Municipality is no longer a deficit body and the coffers are healthy”. During the subsequent debate, the councilor’s positive opinion Ruggero Pegna who praised Zaffina’s work and “his skills”. Rosario Piccioni highlighted “the poor collection capacity which unfortunately also concerns our city”. On the residuals, the councilor of Lamezia bene comune has “highlighted that out of 90 million only 11 have been collected”. An “endemic fact which however concerns not only our city”. Stigmatizing in any case that not even this Administration “has had great collection capacity”.
Even the councilor Lucia Citizen, while praising the presentation of councilor Zaffina and his professionalism, criticized “the insufficient collection capacity” and “the excessively accounting approach of the Administration”. The defense of the executive’s actions came from the councillor, Pino Zaffina of the majority who expressed a “positive political opinion that allows the organization to achieve financial recovery”. Criticisms of the budget came from Dario Arcieri of Action who observed that “the city is in bad conditions”. In his speech, the mayor Paolo Mascaro he underlined “the lack of comments regarding the financial instrument”, and declared himself in favor of Pegna’s proposal which had hypothesized the introduction of a “Tourist tax” for those arriving in the city. Mascaro also praised the work of the Authority which has “eliminated unnecessary expenses”. Regarding collections, the mayor underlined that “there are no responsibilities of the Municipality. This is a majority that is against social butchery and that is on the side of the people.” Regarding the deficit, the mayor condemned the statements of those who “speak without knowledge of the Municipality in default”. After the mayor’s speech, the explanations of vote.
