Winning the Copa America and almost definitively leaving the national team. It is the story of Nico Dominguez, former Bologna player, who won the South American competition in 2021, only to then no longer be able to play with the albiceleste jersey. He was also out of the squad for the 2022 World Cup and the Final against Italy.
Yet Dominguez is one of the most interesting midfielders of his generation, in Argentina. However, the wave of new talents – such as Mac Allister – led him to be sacrificed by coach Scaloni. Last summer, speaking of sacrifices, Dominguez was sold for around 10 million euros, as part of the operation that also brought Remo Freuler to Bologna. Not bad from what we saw from the Swiss, given that Bologna managed to reach the Champions League.
Nottingham Forest, however, did not have a bad season. Just like the Argentine who collected twenty-six appearances in his first year in the Premier League, after two in Serie A with the Bologna jersey. Milan were also interested in him, but then chose other players, like Musah. Who knows, maybe his future could be back in Italy, maybe with another club. Nicolas Dominguez turns 26 today.
