The Free Consortium starts the firefighting service throughout the Agrigento area

Starting from Monday 24 June 2024, the fire surveillance service organized by the Civil Protection Group of the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento will be active. This service, operational until August 31st, involves the surveillance of some provincial and state roads near wooded areas, in order to prevent and combat fires.

Dynamic Teams in Action

The fire surveillance service will be carried out by dynamic teams made up of two employees of the Civil Protection Office and two volunteers from various local civil protection associations. The associations involved are the Rangers of Sambuca di Sicilia, the National Association of Carabinieri on leave from Licata, the municipal group of Palma di Montechiaro, the Compagnia Giubbe Verdi of Castrofilippo and the Civil Protection Group of S. Stefano Quisquina. These teams will be deployed at strategic locations to ensure effective surveillance.

Advanced Technologies for Fire Prevention

One of the absolute novelties of this fire surveillance service is the use of drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras for real-time monitoring of green areas. A team of UAS pilots, authorized to use drones, will be responsible for monitoring fire risk areas and identifying any suspicious activities, such as arsonists and abandonment of waste along provincial roads.

Collaboration with Local Authorities

The Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento has informed all the competent authorities of the start of the fire surveillance service. The Prefecture of Agrigento, the Fire Brigade Command, the Departmental Forestry Inspectorate, the Regional Department of Civil Protection, the Commands of the various Law Enforcement Agencies and the Mayors of the Municipalities involved have all been notified. This collaboration aims to ensure a rapid and effective response in case of emergencies.

Objectives of the Fire Surveillance Service

The main objective of the fire watch service is to prevent fires, protect wooded areas and ensure the safety of local communities. The dynamic teams, together with the use of advanced technologies such as drones with thermal imaging cameras, represent a significant step towards greater effectiveness in fire prevention. For more information on the fire surveillance service and the activities of the Civil Protection Group of the Free Municipal Consortium of Agrigento, it is possible to visit the official website of the consortium or contact the Civil Protection Office directly.
