PALERMO – The number of people joining the regional demonstration for the right to health and the relaunch of the public health service is growing, which will be held tomorrow in Palermo on the initiative of the CGIL Sicilia and the regional public administration and SPI.
“A demonstration against the failures of the regional government – says the general secretary of the CGIL Sicily, Alfio Mannino – but also against the unfortunate provision of differentiated autonomy which, with unchanged legislation, will deprive Sicily of 1.3 billion a year. This will mean fewer services, less healthcare, less education, less infrastructure.”
“Sicily – underlines Mannino – risks a powerful retreat and the growth of the gap compared to the rest of the country. We – he states – intend to oppose this measure with all the means at our disposal”.

CGIL, SPI and FP criticize the regional government for the failure to reorganize the hospital network and local medicine, the excessive attention to the private sector, the propensity for power games and clientele, the lack of initiative regarding the problem of staff shortages healthcare.
It follows that 800 thousand Sicilians give up treatment every year, many emigrate to more efficient health systems in other regions since the essential levels of assistance are not guaranteed, and the entire population is faced with the tragic evidence of a reduction in healthy life expectancy.
The gap compared to Trentino is 5 years, 11 years compared to the autonomous province of Bolzano. “The stalemate is complete – says a note from CGIL, FP and SPI – even where some progress could have been expected.
