Federconsumatori Sicilia adheres to regional demonstration in favor of public health and against the fragmentation of healthcare provision, “which certainly”, writes the association in a note, “will be one of the effects of thedifferentiated autonomy just approved by Parliament”. There event, organized by CGIL Sicilia, will start tomorrow 20 June at 10:00 in Piazza Parliament, in Palermo. The aim of the demonstration is to protest “against the slow but constant process of privatization of healthcare, which takes resources away from public structures to give them to private ones, which are companies and therefore have the profit as the main purpose, while the National Health Service was created to protect the health of all citizens, without any social, economic or religious distinction”.

Federconsumatori Sicilia, no to differentiated autonomy

Federconsumatori specifies that it is not against private healthcare, which can be a problem valid help to the public sector, but she is convinced that private healthcare cannot in any way take the place of public healthcare, subtracting from it funds, staff and resources. “Health is a fundamental right of consumer citizens”, recalls the president of Federconsumatori Sicilia, Alfio La Rosa, “and for this reason Federconsumatori has decided to join the regional protest. In our region hundreds of thousands of citizens have been waiting for months for a specialist visit or an instrumental examination, the emergency rooms are in constant difficulty, the beds in the departments are always insufficient. The answer to these problems”, concludes La Rosa, “is to invest in public health and ensure that the sick do not need travel hundreds of kilometers to be treated“.
