ANCONA – He hadn’t paid for the ticket and when the train conductor came by for a check he started to justify himself by saying that he had had a death in the family and had to go to Foggia for a funeral. The Trenitalia employee asked him for the documents to record the fine and was full of insults. Swear words and intimidating threats. “I’m not giving you anything, you’re lucky the windows don’t open otherwise I’d throw you out.” The passenger was on board a train on the Bologna-Pescara route, in carriage number 5, who got on between the Cattolica and Fano stations and was also traveling with a bicycle in tow. The disproportionate reaction caused him to end up on trial before judge Antonella Passalacqua and the hearing began yesterday. The accused is a 45-year-old from San Giovanni Rotondo who returned to Foggia on 21 July 2021 due to a death in the family. It was 6pm when he sat down in one of the seats in carriage number 5 where shortly afterwards he closed his eyes and dozed off. At the Senigallia station the train conductor, 40 years old, arrived and she woke him up because she had to check his ticket.
The employee was also asking the passengers whose bicycle was left nearby. The 45-year-old got nervous, he didn’t have a travel document and didn’t want to be identified. The insults and threats began. “I’ll throw you out the window.” The train arrived at Ancona station where the railway police boarded and made him get off by identifying him and threatening him. The passenger is accused of resisting a public official and refusing to provide his personal details. He is defended by the lawyer Michele Di Ruggero. The train conductor filed a civil action with the lawyer Alessandro Ferri. Next hearing on November 19th.
