A cardiologist doctor and an honorary deputy prosecutor were arrested and placed under house arrest in Lecce for gang sexual violence. The deputy prosecutor was on duty in the Salento capital at the time of the events. The provision arrived after the issuing of the precautionary measure by the Naples review court at the request of the Benevento prosecutor’s office. The two are accused of the crime of group sexual violence, aggravated by the doctor from Benevento who acted as a public official in the exercise of his functions with the active participation of the alleged accomplice, the deputy prosecutor.
The Benevento hospital
According to the story, in a hospital in the Benevento area there were “strongly intrusive acts on the sexual freedom of the unsuspecting patients who were induced to undress and be groped by the doctor and the honorary deputy prosecutor who qualified as a colleague of the cardiologist”. The investigations began after the transmission of the documents by the Potenza prosecutor’s office. During another investigation it emerged that the honorary deputy prosecutor serving in Lecce would have gone to the Campania hospital and that during his trips he had the habit of pretending to be a healthcare professional. On those occasions, together with the cardiologist, he allegedly carried out acts of sexual violence and groping against unaware women who were formally undergoing a medical examination.

Sexual violence is aggravated by other crimes such as the abusive practice of the medical profession, unlawful interference with private life and the dissemination of images and videos with sexually explicit content. On June 13, the Supreme Court declared the appeal of the defense of the suspects inadmissible and accepted that of the Prosecutor’s Office for the remaining charges. The point of the Naples court order relating to the measure of house arrest has thus become enforceable.
