“For a wind of peace” by UISP

“For a wind of peace” is the title of the UISP Sicily tour of the island which will depart from Messina on Saturday 29 June at 10:00.

The initiative starts for the first year and represents “a significant opportunity to demonstrate the mutual commitment to ensuring peaceful coexistence for all”.

The demonstration

Collecting the baton from the boats participating in the “Giro d’Italia a Vela 2024” of the UISP National Sailing, “For a wind of peace” is open to all associations that wish to participate.

“For a wind of peace” – explains UISP – will take place on the Sekeles boat which will sail along the coasts of Sicily to bring a message: the hope for an immediate and peaceful resolution of the conflicts taking place in the world.

In sailing the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Sicilian Channel and the Ionian Sea starting from Messina, Sekeles will land in the ports of Palermo, Trapani, Ragusa, Catania, to invite sea enthusiasts, sailing lovers or simple citizens, “to fuel the breath of a Wind of Peace for all populations at war”.

The boat

The Sekeles (name of the vessel) were a population forming part of the confederation of the Sea Peoples who lived in ancient times in the Mediterranean basin and are presumed to be able to identify themselves with the ancestors of the Siculi or with the Siculi themselves.

The UISP Regional Committee thanks the ASD “Fata Morgana” of Messina for having made the boat available for the realization of the initiative.

Information

UISP invites all interested parties to reach “For a wind of peace” in the various ports of Sicily that will be touched by Sekeles and to participate in the initiative by displaying the flag of Peace on the boats this summer.
