“As everyone knew when we took office Reggio it didn’t have a mayor – explains the vice president of the Calabria Region Giusy Princeswhich spoke during the last episode of Live Break – It is true that the delegations concern administrative functions but the political interlocutor became fundamental”.

The new Euro Parliament also addressed, among many issues, the issue of ‘delegations and functions’, the assignment of which becomes decisive for the relaunch of the metropolitan territory. Once the electoral ‘pause’ ended, the president Eyedin addition to recomposing the ‘puzzle’ of the Council, will have to get back into motion, trying to accelerate the process that has been awaited for too long now.

“One of the first things he did Eyedtogether with the Hon. Cannizzarowas the meeting with the mayor Falcomata with respect to the assignment of delegations and functions, ensuring the transfer to the Metropolitan City – explains the new MEP Princes – The moment the mayor returned I immediately summoned the mayor of Reggio and to be fully operational I had the general managers and sector managers intervene in that same meeting Calabria region. It was a very fruitful meeting.”

During the meeting over a month ago, it was established, Princi assures, “a very precise timetable“.

“Managers and general managers, along with Metro City leaders are already taking action. When they define the administrative part with the details of the resources indicated there will be a resolution by the Council. When a result has to be announced we will communicate it, as we have always done.”

But what are the timescales now foreseen for completing the process?

“We have indicated, together with the general secretaries of the two institutions, the end of 2024 as the reference year but it is likely that the process could be completed earlier – he concludes Giusy Princi – There is an administrative process that must follow its own time”.

The path therefore that will lead to the attribution of functions to the Metro City by the Calabria Region seems to be clear. And the almost ten-year wait, which would mark a fundamental step for the relaunch of the metropolitan area, should end by the end of 2024.

The implementation of the delegations provided for by the Delrio law will allow issues of territorial planning, economic development, mobility, environmental protection and many other crucial aspects linked to the well-being of citizens and the growth of the territory to be addressed more effectively.

Furthermore, with the new functions, the body will be able to take on an active role in the promotion and coordination of local development. Greater ability to attract investments, support businesses, stimulate innovation and encourage the creation of new job opportunities, with particular attention to the peculiarities and needs of the metropolitan area. With the possibility of directly managing the countless resources.
