PALERMO – Meetings, shows, concerts, but on the day of the great Pride celebration in Palermo, like every year, it is the parade scheduled for next Saturday with concentration in via Roma, starting from 3pm.

11 floats, 2 trains will parade and during the procession, which will wind from via Roma to via Cavour, then via Ruggiero Settimo to reach the Zisa cultural sites, a series of flash mobs are also planned.

Palermo Pride 2024 has been presentedin the morning, at the Massimo theater, by the coordinator Daniela Tomasino, by the mayor Roberto Lagalla, also present the actress Simona Malato who together with the rapper Big Mama, who also participated in the last Sanremo, are the godmothers of the event.

During the presentation Luigi Carollo, the soul of Pride Palermo, who passed away last April, was also remembered.

Tomasino: “We fight for rights”

“Pride – explains Tomasino – it becomes a container for a series of struggles against oppressionwe say that we need to take to the streets for the planet, for Palestine, for Ukraine, we need to take to the streets for women’s rights, for example legal and safe abortion is becoming impossible rather than a right”.

“The work – he adds – it’s a utopia, if you work you don’t get paid. We collect a series of instances, we cannot just fight for some rights while ignoring those of others. Only a just society can guarantee rights for all. If I have rights and those around me don’t have any, my rights become privileges. This is the meaning of Pride.”

This year’s theme is sexist violence. “We chose the events that occurred in Palermo in July last year – explains Tomasino – the gang rape, a terrible act that made an impression, but also the reaction that followed afterwards”.

Lagalla: “Administration protects rights”

“I believe that the orientation of the municipal administration towards the protection of rights and the recognition of identities is known and peaceful“, says the mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla.

“This happened in the past and happens in the present, certainly when you do a job and look at the community with interest and attention, political prejudices and partisan prejudices disappear. Pride is a celebration, an identity celebration that the city welcomes and that the city must know how to listen to.”
