Taranto, far west in Tramontone: there is a second arrest

TARANTO – Alessandro Nuzzo, a 39-year-old involved in the firefight in Tramontone on Friday afternoon against 35-year-old Nico Salamina, who had already been arrested by the Flying Squad investigators on charges of illegal possession of weapons and attempted murder, turned himself in yesterday afternoon. Accompanied by his lawyer, Lorenzo Pulito and Marino Galeandro, Nuzzo showed up at the police headquarters before being transferred to the Ionian prison: for days the police had now clarified his responsibilities in the affair and were on his trail. The 39-year-old, now hunted, could not do anything but hand himself over to justice. Nuzzo also faces charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons for returning fire against Salamina.

It all started around 6pm on June 14th when, according to the reconstructions of the investigators, directed by the deputy commissioner Luigi Vessio and coordinated by the public prosecutor Salvatore Colella, Nuzzo entered the service station in via Mediterraneo and ordered a drink. Shortly afterwards two scooters arrived in the square and Nico Salamina was on board one of these. Having noticed the presence of the two motorcycles, Nuzzo came out of the bar and shouted something, starting the hail of bullets. Salamina was the first to shoot and Nuzzo found shelter behind a planter and from there he then pulled the trigger towards his opponents. Fortunately, despite the presence of numerous cars, passers-by and motorists refueling, no one was injured. In the last few hours, however, a man showed up at the police station to show the officers a bullet hole on the passenger side: in those circumstances, the man confirmed, he was in the petrol station to refuel and only by a miracle did that bullet he did not enter the cockpit.

Furthermore, after the wild west, Nuzzo returned to the bar asking the workers to contact the owner to delete the images from the video surveillance cameras. An operation which, however, was taking up a lot of time and so, for fear that the police would arrive, he chose to get back on his motorbike and disappear. The police arrived shortly and thanks to the images they managed to reconstruct the story in record time.

Meanwhile yesterday morning, the investigating judge Francesco Maccagnano validated the arrest of Salamina, defended by the lawyers Andrea MAggio and Andrea Silvestri, and confirmed his precautionary custody in prison. In the 28 pages of the order, the judge explained the choice of cell detention due to the “numerous serious judicial precedents”, the “lack of self-control” highlighted by his attitude and the “vindictive spirit”. In fact, revenge was the cause of the ambush carried out by Salamina: in 2020, in fact, it was Nuzzo who shot and hit the 37-year-old to punish a sentimental blunder. And so, years later, the vengeful act would be completed. Now both are detained in prison: Nuzzo, however, will have to appear before the judge in the next few hours for the validation interrogation. At that time he will have to decide whether to avail himself of the right not to respond or provide his version of the facts.
