Coppa Acerbo, the Region wants the trophy – Pescara

PESCARA. Purchase the Coppa Acerbo and bring it back to Abruzzo to display it in the next location in the Region. It is the dream of the president of the regional council Lorenzo Sighswho revealed his project yesterday morning while speaking at the conference organized at the Aurum on the occasion of the celebrations of the centenary of the legendary Pescara car race “The beautiful tale of the Pescara Circuit”.
«I dream of being able to acquire, as the Abruzzo Region, the historic Coppa Acerbo and keep it inside a display case to be placed in the central nave of the future single headquarters of the Abruzzo Region which we will create in a small portion of the resulting areas. A display case that will look directly at the future D’Annunzio Library, two symbols of the history of Pescara, a history of speed of action, of modernism and of roots”, said Sospiri at the opening of the conference.
The president of the Regional Council will try to convince the owners of the Cup «to sell it to the Abruzzo Region», he added, «so that it is visible to everyone, in front of the D’Annunzio library, which we are setting up by carrying out an operation with the Vittoriale to purchase a large fund of D’Annunzio’s book stocks. We must tell the mystical story of the Coppa Acerbo of the ‘steel knights’ who raced by to the world, we must not get lost in trivial questions, and the Abruzzo Region will be available”.
The first appointments of the program of events for the centenary of the Coppa Acerbo ended yesterday: in addition to the conference, there was a gathering of the Ferrari Testarossas in the city, which yesterday toured the historic race circuit and then visited the racing centers Vestina area and some towns in the L’Aquila area.
From 22 June at 7pm (preceded by a conference at 6pm) the exhibition “La Coppa Acerbo. On Friday 12 July in the pedestrian streets of the center dozens of artists took to the streets to paint and exhibit works related to the theme “D’Annunzio, De Sterlich and the myth of speed”, an event dedicated to the memory of Francesco Santuccione.(oda)
