MESSINA – There are 147 Sicilian municipalities that have not yet approved the 2024-2026 budget forecast. For this reason, the Sicilian Region, with the intervention of the councilor for local authorities Andrea Messina, has taken the decision to appoint some ad acta commissioners who will have to ensure the adoption of the budget for these entities. Among the municipalities affected, 38 are located in the province of Messina. The commissioners, identified by the Region, are Domenico Mastrolembo Ventura, Mario Teresi, Fiippa D’Amato and Antonella Panzeca.
THE MUNICIPAL COMMISSIONERS
The Messina municipalities under commissionership in the province of Messina are: Capo d’Orlando, Caronia, Castel di Lucio, Ficarra, Fiumedinisi, Forza d’Agrò, Francavilla di Sicilia, Frazzano, Furci Siculo, Furnari, Leni, Librizzi, Limina, Lipari, Mandanici, Mirto, Mistretta, Monforte San Giorgio, Mongiuffi Melia, Montalbano Elicona, Motta Camastra, Motta d’Affermo, Pace del Mela, Pagliara, Patti, Roccella Valdemone, San Fratello, Sant’Agata di Militello, Sant’Alessio Siculo, Santo Stefano di Camastra, Saponara, Scaletta Zanclea, Sinagra, Terme Vigliatore, Torrenova, Tripi, Valdina and Villafranca Tirrena.
The provision was taken by the Region in order to guarantee the planning of activities and services to be offered to citizens over the next three years. As Councilor Messina underlines, “the appointment of ad acta commissioners is the extreme act we had to resort to after having attempted, in all possible ways, to stimulate the Municipalities to adopt the budget estimates with the ordinary procedures. The deadlines established by law were largely exceeded and it was no longer possible to wait any longer. Citizens deserve respect and efficient services”
THE PROCESS TOWARDS SETTLEMENT
Before taking office, the commissioners will have to ascertain the status of the budget approval process in each municipality. If the non-compliance is confirmed, the commissioners will approve the budget. It is important to point out that in some of these 38 Messina municipalities the accounting tool has already been approved by the municipal council. These are Scaletta Zanclea (approved on 30 April), Sant’Alessio Siculo (10 May), Limina (13 May), Furci Siculo (16 May) and Fiumedinisi (13 June). In these cases, the passage to the City Council should take place shortly.
