After over 6 centuries Perugia and L’Aquila are ‘reconciled’ in the name of Braccio da Montone

L’AQUILA – After over 6 centuries Perugia and L’Aquila are ‘reconciled’ in the name of Braccio da Montone. Yesterday, Sunday 16 June, on the occasion of the ninth edition of Perugia 1416 (one of the major medieval-Renaissance historical re-enactments, which recalls, among other things, the entry into the Umbrian city by Braccio da Montone), the municipal administration of ‘Aquila became the protagonist of a unique historical moment.

“A delegation from our Municipality – explained the mayor Pierluigi Biondi and the councilor Manuela Tursini, who represented the mayor himself on the occasion of the event in Perugia – shared the participation in such an important event, in the city that was once owned by Braccio Fortebracci , known as Braccio da Montone. A true ‘reconciliation’ between the two cities 600 years after the death of the leader who was stopped by the Aquilans at the gates of the city in May 1423″.

“Yesterday’s initiative – continued the mayor and councilor – represents a milestone in the relations between our two cities, a symbol of lived history and a shared vision for the future. Special thanks go to the Perugia 1416 Social Promotion Association and the Municipality of Perugia for the invitation to our Municipality. Similar gratitude – concluded Mayor Biondi and Councilor Tursini – also goes to the Compagnia Rosso d’Aquila, because without his commitment this historic event would not have been possible”.
