A kaleidoscope of colors and geometric shapes, all different yet well integrated as a whole, welcome those arriving today on the ground floor of via Bologna 49/a, headquarters of the Foreigners Service of the Municipality of Turin. The new mural crosses the surrounding wall adjacent to the entrance and the seats of the internal courtyard of the structure and is the result, as part of the “Common Space” project, of a participatory process of renovation and operational refunctionalization of the external and internal spaces of the headquarters , to adapt it to the needs of its beneficiaries, operators, shaping a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The mayor Stefano Lo Russo and the councilor for Social Policies Jacopo Rosatelli will inaugurate the renovated spaces of the Foreigners Service this afternoon.

Thanks to the partnership activated between the Municipality of Turin, UNHCR, the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) of the Polytechnic of Turin and the Giuseppe and Pericle Lavazza Foundation, it was possible to start the co-design process and purchase the materials and equipment for the creation of the projects.

The objective is to make the spaces of the Foreigners Service more welcoming and functional, in a context which sees an increase in the range of services offered as well as the number of people reached and involved.

“The mural that we are inaugurating today – explained Mayor Lo Russo – well represents the idea of community that we have in mind for our city, capable of including and welcoming everyone, respecting everyone’s rights and identity. The Foreigners Service offers precious support every day to people, children and families who have arrived in our city from other countries, helping them to orient themselves on essential services regarding education, healthcare, work and housing. From today they will have an even more beautiful and functional place to welcome them.”

“We are happy and proud of the conclusion of the participatory reorganization of the “Common Space” operating at the City’s Foreigners Service – stated councilor Rosatelli. Thanks to the project coordination of the Social Design Lab of the Department of Architecture and Design of the Polytechnic of Turin, the support of the Giuseppe and Pericle Lavazza Foundation and the participation of many public and private operators, from today the spaces of the Service will be more beautiful and welcoming . We are deeply convinced that beauty is not a privilege for the few, but a right of all people, especially the most fragile ones, and that the possibility of receiving a service in a more pleasant context is part of a path of care and hospitality. The new aspect of the spaces is, among other things, consistent with the mission of “Common Space”, a multifunctional desk that brings together various services and bodies, with the aim of facilitating the lives of foreign people”
