There are now four days left until the great mobilization that will take place on Friday 21 June in Piazza Europa in Cuneo. Organized by the minority council groups of the capital city, it will be – as they themselves announced during a meeting, right in the square, at the end of May – a day of music, dance and social and environmental commitment, with space for technical interventions relating to the state of health of the city’s most discussed plants and a great connection to them.

The “no” front to the redevelopment of Piazza Europa in Cuneo as long as the project includes the removal of the ten Atlas cedars currently present is therefore preparing to take the field again, and in force.

This is the program for the day “The cedars remain!”:
4pm – music, theatre, dancing
6.30 pm – interventions by the council groups and associations
7pm – chaining to the cedars

Pellegrino: “If the cedars remain, no redevelopment”

Last May 27, in the last municipal council, we actually talked about the project a few days after the official presentation during a controversial council commission.

During the city meeting the councilor Luca Pellegrino responded to the councilors’ requests regarding the project by underlining how it was never said in the commission that the cedars are dangerous, but “we cannot consider the safe duration of a tree in a forest to be the same as that of one growing in an urban context such as that of Piazza Europa”: “The cedars, as they are positioned, could be an element of danger in a period of time and will probably not last more than ten or fifteen years: by keeping them we will find ourselves in a situation that would make the structural redevelopment of the square impossible and would require annual load tests which would risk empty the square permanently”.
