Emanuela Fiori is the new President of ISIA of Faenza, who takes office with immediate effect for a three-year period. “I am very honored to take on the role of President of the ISIA of Faenza – she declared – and first of all I want to thank the Hon. Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research, for the trust shown in nominating me. I deeply believe in the importance that Institutes of Higher Artistic Education have in the Italian university panorama. ISIA in Faenza is a place where young generations can combine their artistic inclinations with the concreteness of a future profession. The study of the most innovative materials and techniques aimed at the many fields of contemporary design (from ceramic product design to environmental design, from communication to fashion), constitutes an essential background for those who intend not to stop at the theoretical meaning of art, but apply it in all those aspects necessary for contemporaneity”.

The new President also underlined that “Faenza is historically recognized as one of the most important centers of ceramic production and the ISiA has been an integral part of this history since its establishment in the 1980s. Precisely to the far-sighted founding fathers of the Bruno Munari Institute, Carlo Zauli and Andrea Emiliani are my thoughts when I take on this role, in the exercise of which I will try to make available the experience acquired during the years of Directorship of the National Museum of Ravenna : to Giovanna Cassese, a figure of national prestige for the Institute for two terms, and to Massimo Bucci, who with his entrepreneurial experience has connected the students with the industrial reality of the area. Together with the Director Maria Concetta Cossa, the teaching staff , to the Board of Directors, and with the support of the administrative staff I will try to increase ISIA’s opportunities, operating in a constant network with the prestigious cultural institutions of Faenza, from state ones to civic and diocesan ones”.

An art historian specialized in the history of medieval and modern art, Emanuela Fiori was a student of Andrea Emiliani, with whom she collaborated until 1998, holding positions within the Superintendency of Historical and Artistic Heritage of Bologna. She is currently a consultant for the National Museums of Bologna, and from 2015 to 2023 she was Director of the National Museum of Ravenna, of the Basilica of S. Apollinare in Classe and of the Arian Baptistery (UNESCO Sites) and delegated official of the Director, with protection duties , enhancement of collections, personnel management and financial management. As an art historian official you were territorial manager with inspection and high surveillance duties on restoration interventions for the city of Bologna and the Diocese of Imola. From 2008 to 2023 you held the position of Director of the Exhibitions and Loans Office of the Superintendence and then of the Regional Museums Directorate of Emilia Romagna. In 2015 you were deputy director of the National Art Gallery of Ferrara and previously technical director of Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande (2000-2013). You have always combined your institutional activity with academic activity: from 2005 to 2012 you were a contract professor of History and Restoration Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna; She is currently a contract professor of Fundamentals of History of Modern Art in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage course at the University of Bologna-Ravenna Campus. Member of scientific committees of exhibitions, she has been the scientific coordinator and curator of numerous exhibitions of ancient and contemporary art, including: Il Tempo Imagined. Achille Funi between Archaeology, history and modernity, 2023; The substance of being. From the ASSICOOP collection a tribute to the work of Roberto Melli (1940 -1950), 2023; The Craft of the Arts. Seduction and beauty in the contemporary world, 2019; Lucrezia Romana. The virtue of women from Raphael to Guido Reni, 2016; 800B – The nineteenth century in Bologna in the collections of the Mambo and the Pinacoteca Nazionale, 2014; Friend Aspertini. Bizarre artist in the age of Durer and Raphael, 2008); Talent and Impatience-Annibale Carracci in the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna, 2006. she is the author of numerous essays and engaged in research in the protection and restoration sector.

The Director of ISIA Faenza Maria Concetta Cossa expressed deep appreciation for this appointment and was keen to specify that “Industry and Art are the tracks along which research and university education at ISIA in Faenza have always developed. Technical and humanistic knowledge in constant balance with each other, engineering and creativity, travel in parallel and characterize all our activities, inside and outside the ISIA headquarters, an important historical place like Palazzo Mazzolani in the center of the city. The support of Massimo Bucci has been drawn along the line most closely linked to the production world, and I thank him infinitely for his availability and collaboration, because he has fostered new relationships between ISIA and the entrepreneurial world of important production chains in our territory, having particularly heart a closer proximity between young people and the world of work. During his presidency, Bucci also paid great attention to the qualification of the ISIA headquarters, in Palazzo Mazzolani, initiating a large architectural project currently in the preliminary phase at the Ministry of University and Research. The new appointment of Emanuela Fiori as president of ISIA Faenza fits perfectly in this context because it is in favor of the valorization of an important heritage for the city, from the cultural to the artistic/architectural one. A very special common thread also ties her to Andrea Emiliani, founder and first president of this institute, having first been his student and having worked with him for years; the considerable experience that you have seen engaged in roles of direction and management of cultural institutes and important museums is what, with great generosity and a spirit of collaboration, you make available to the university institution that I have the honor of directing. I sincerely thank Emanuela Fiori for having accepted the invitation to apply that the Academic Council submitted to the MUR and I wish her good luck in her work, as well as giving her a warm welcome”.
