Calà (AdR): “Travellers will be able to receive updates on the flight status in real time on their smartphones”

Aeroporti di Roma launches two innovative digital services, just a click away, at the “Leonardo da Vinci” airport in Fiumicino, within the “Digiport” platform. Thanks to this innovative service, passengers will be able to receive updates via Whatsapp on the status of their departing flight and view boarding operations at the gate in real time on their smartphone, thanks to artificial intelligence.

This new strategic project for the Rome Airports is part of the strategy of the Mundys Group, which considers innovation one of the main development levers. AdR is thus accelerating on the path to digitalisation to further improve the customer experience of travellers “Leonardo da Vinci” recently awarded by ACI World as the best European airport for the quality and excellence of the services offered.

The chatbot service via WhatsApp allows passengers to get real-time flight status notifications and detailed information on all the services provided at Fiumicino airport. Passengers, by scanning a QR Code reproduced in the lower section of the Flight Info Monitors, can access a dedicated chat to check the status of their flight at any time without having to consult the terminal displays themselves.

The direct use of the most used messaging chat in the world allows passengers to simplify and optimize their stay at the airport. Through the “Digiport” chatbot, which has been in the experimental phase for a few days Fiumicino has already seen almost 1,000 passengers a day using itit is also possible to access updated information on all the services offered by Adr.

But not only that: for the 14 gates E11-E24 of the non-Schengen boarding area “Molo E” of the “Leonardo da Vinci”, Adr launches the “Smart Boarding” service which, accessible exclusively via QR Code, through a of micro-cameras coordinated by artificial intelligence, manages to collect and process data on boarding operations in real-time, giving travelers the opportunity to view the live-streaming of their flight’s progress in real time from their mobile phone, including detailed updates on the percentage of completion of the process. Passengers, by monitoring the completion of boarding from their phone, can thus freely choose when to get in line and make the most of their experience at the airport.

Both new services “Digiport” and “Smart Boarding” represent a concrete example of Open Innovation for Adr and circularity of ideas in the company. They were in fact conceived and developed thanks to the collaboration, respectively, with Airport AI and ZestIot, two of the startups that participated in the Call4ideas launched by Aeroporti di Roma at the Innovation Hub, the first business accelerator, located in Terminal 1 of the same “Leonardo da Vinci”, for the development of startups in the airport sector.

With these new services we continue our mission to revolutionize – declared Emanuele Calà, vice president Innovation & Quality of Aeroporti di Roma – thanks to digital, the passenger experience at the airport: today the traveler can have all the coordinates for their flight just a click away, without having to view the flight information monitors several times. By directly activating notifications on your smartphone and monitoring the boarding status in real-timetravelers will be able to spend their time exploring the airport worry-free while waiting for take-off.”
