THE PROFESSOR’S CORNER – The next municipal elections are in 2027, three years to go. Democracy, the supreme value, wants the burdens and honors to be their turn now. For
now they have to work…

Did they want the bicycle? It’s time to get ruthless: let them work and take note. A sort of always updated report card. There will be a time to take stock and decide who to vote for in 2027 but now we need to think about our interests, ruthlessly.

It is in our interest to ignore the so-called biased news that exploits everything. It’s in our interest that they work hard and deserve their pay, they get it anyway. It is in our interest that the administration is ready to accept input and requests. If they are always on the defensive they won’t be able to be. It is in our interest that in three years we cannot say: “we were unable to govern because…”. It is in our interest that the council keeps offices and managers functioning. If the junta must always defend itself they certainly cannot attack. Let them work.

Even at this moment I hear the noise of the trolley wheels signaling a tourist arriving or departing. Tourism arrives and we must think about making money, not presenting the city as in disarray or without hope… ruthless means in our interest, not the other way around.

Personally I have a thousand ideas, some at zero cost, some worth hundreds of euros, some worth thousands and a few worth millions of euros. But I’m nobody and I like to act in the interests of the city that I hold close to my heart. I publish my ideas in the professor’s corner on La Fune or on Facebook. Do the same and let them work. In this way everything remains written and when it is your turn you will come forward with your ideas in the next elections and if the voters trust you, it will be your turn but remember from now on: “burdens and honours”.

Is the opposition of any use? But of course, in America they say “keeping them honest”. Keep them honest. They could ask questions, access documents and go to the newspapers whenever they want but, if anyone thinks that their action will lead to a change of leadership of the city… poor people
naive.

There is a city that is growing, that is changing its offerings and that wants to be at the center of the world. Some shop selling who knows what will open soon. Let’s hope Eleonora Bonucci quickly opens the Schenardi-food complex in Piazza delle Erbe, perhaps with the footballer Bonucci taking the first coffee served.

A couple of young lovers will invent another restaurant in the center and will sell fried pizzas or checca scratches or bread and Nutella and will make a lot of money. Luckily they are there. All the keyboard lions who find satisfaction in offending me… do so. No problem. I continue to enjoy the contrast of the flowers with the peperino or the art now everywhere in the city that I hold close to my heart.
