Viale Diaz, cemetery of trees and greenery

The Frontini administration today cuts the ribbon on the “new street furniture” of Piazza della Rocca, new paving and colorful flowerbeds, while in total indifference the trees of Viale Armando Diaz die and with them a minimum decency that should be guaranteed to a city. From Porta Romana to the station it is a sight that arouses indignation, disgust and anger for the level of neglect reached in a very central area of the city. Dead trees, fallen to the ground, in the middle of a long yellowed flowerbed of tall grass, strewn with waste of all kinds.

An avenue that only a few years ago was at the center of the fanfare of controversy from those who, at the time the opposition, shouted “massacre” due to the cutting of the maritime pines by the former Arena administration, but which today, having passed into the majority, remains in silence in front of the poor prunus who, after months, perhaps, of drought due to the lack of water, gave up, falling to the ground.

Chiara Frontini, now mayor, as an opposition councillor, on 27 October 2021, harshly attacked the centre-right administration via social media for the cutting of the pine trees in via Armando Diaz: “There are no excuses for this massacre – she wrote – you can cite all the reasons you want, the railway, the road surface, the seven plagues of Egypt. Anything. But nothing that, if there had been the will, could not have been avoided with careful maintenance.” The same one that would serve today as what Frontini at the time defined as “one of the main entrances to the city”.
