A 66-year-old swimmer dragged away by the current did not make it and drowned before the eyes of his companion once he was recovered from the sea and taken to the beach.
The man, a 66-year-old from Lanuvio, was spending a day at the seaside on a stretch of free beach in the Ponente area.
After having lunch with your partner, you swim in the sea with her. The couple, however, immediately found themselves in difficulty due to the strong currents.
Useless help
The two couldn’t get back to shore and started floundering. The lifeguards from the nearby “Saint Tropez” establishment intervened and rescued the couple and led the couple to the shore.
Once the alarm was raised, a 118 ambulance and the Port Authority staff also arrived on the beach. However, there was nothing that could be done for the 66-year-old. Attempts to resuscitate him proved futile.
