Municipality and deadlines. Payments fifteen days in advance. But there are those who do better

The Municipality of Arezzo pays its suppliers 15 days in advance. The Region isn’t doing too badly either, the Local Health Authority is slower. But in short: nothing to do with the Municipality of Naples which pays the invoices 143 days after the deadline, that is, almost 5 months late. Bad, actually very bad. A nightmare for Neapolitan companies. Arezzo, on the other hand, fares well in terms of timeliness and in this round this is also certified by the CGIA of Mestre which in its weekly report in which it ranks provinces and regions in this or that area rewards our city, virtuous and punctual. We are not top of the class and even in Tuscany there are those who do better like Grosseto, who pays 22 days before the deadlines, and in fact is in the top five of the most famous in the whole country. And then Lucca (19 days earlier), Siena (18), Pistoia (17) also do better but after them, there are us.

And in fact in the first half of 2023 the Municipality of Arezzo paid suppliers an average of 15 days in advance and in the first half of 2024 the data is also good although a bit down: a good 8 days in advance in invoicing. Quick but not on the podium: Speedy Gonzales in Italy is Palermo who has already made the transfer 65 days before the deadline.

This is no small matter. Promptness in payments does not cause trouble for small and medium-sized businesses which, for example, are put to the test in the South given that snail payments are the order of the day. To correct yet another flaw in the relationship between the economy and public administration, a law is being discussed for dry, direct and universal compensation which would make the payment of State fees to companies automatic. But we still have to wait. However, even taking a look at the Mef report (data updated to the first half of 2023) there are interesting numbers. The Tuscany Region is doing well, so much so that its almost 5 thousand invoices in the quarter of last year were collected by suppliers 19 days in advance. The local branch of the National Health System, however, is slower: the South East Tuscany Local Health Authority (which includes Arezzo, Grosseto and Siena) is not so fast, so much so that there was an average delay of 7 days in payments in the first half of the year. But Arezzo, if you look elsewhere, is Valhalla. Yes, because for example the Catanzaro healthcare company takes 64 extra days; as well as the Local Health Authority of Naples 3 South which takes its time and makes suppliers wait another 28 days.
