COSENZA – After 7 years from its entry into force, the Cosenza City Council approved the new regulation on urban waste management and hygiene approved by the then City Council in 2017, which was then repealed and superseded. A necessary change and a new municipal regulation, however transpose European waste directives with some important changes and that it will not entail any increase in costs for the Municipal Body in its financial management. A job started and completed by councilor Alessandra Bresciani who in the chamber read all the articles that make up the regulation, a fundamental basis for the implementation of the urban waste collection plan, approved with the council resolution dated 9 August 2022. “A painstaking job – said Bresciani – also by part of the various commissions and of sector 8 led byEnvironment Councilor Giovanni Ramundo which allowed the various articles of the approved regulation to be implemented”.

The regulation has one main objective series of rules starting from the one that safeguards the safety, well-being and security of the community and individuals, without using procedures or methods that could cause harm to the environment. There progressive reduction of waste sent to landfill with a pushed door and consequent reduction in disposal costs, one waste classification and delivery methodto guarantee distinct management of different types of waste and promote their recovery.

Again, nosteps aimed at guaranteeing distinct and effective management of hazardous, special and cemetery waste. Rules relating to the delivery of waste to i municipal collection centersmeasures necessary for the ooptimization of the forms of delivery, collection and transport of packaging wastei, everything the sanctioning system to prosecute irregular conduct by citizens and users also in transfer operations. Finally, greater prevention, precautions, collaborations, cooperation and empowerment of all those involved in production, distribution, etcconsumption of goods that generate waste and the “Polluter pays” criterion.
