Councilor Turco responds to criticism: “Cosenza is changing”

“For several months now I have been reading public interventions by some members of my own party, who I presume do not live in Cosenza, or who in any case are closed in their homes and do not experience the city. However, they are particularly skilled in dispensing criticism without proposing solutions, simply for the sake of saying something.” Thus writes Francesco Turco, municipal councilor of Cosenza, in an official note.

Turco addresses the recent criticisms relating to the former Hotel Jolly: “I think of the latest statements regarding the former Hotel Jolly which see us actively committed to remedying an unfortunate situation, inherited from a not-too-past past which has left us with yet another unfinished business which will soon, thanks to us, be completed. I am also referring to Viale Mancini which, without a shadow of a doubt, represented a very important work for the city’s roads but which, certainly not by our choice, has taken on another role.”

“They should know, gentlemen, that a project under the jurisdiction of the region cannot be modified outright as they would like to insinuate and clumsily make us believe. I could propose other significant examples but I prefer to make a point,” Turco continues, expressing his disappointment towards the criticisms that he considers unfounded.

Turco invites the critics to explore the city with him: “However, I would like to invite you gentlemen to walk around the city with me, a walk will certainly be useful and interesting to see, if they have the eyes to do so, how every day we proceed on the path undertaken with sacrifice and dedication and often with bare hands due to the scarcity of economic and human resources.”

“I would start with an inspection of San Vito/Serra Spiga, a neighborhood that has become a feverish urban construction site in which, in keeping with the programmatic lines of the electoral campaign, a kindergarten, kilometers of pavements and underground services, lighting, green areas and aggregation points and redevelopment of buildings. I would then pass through the historic center, perhaps accessing it via Corso Vittorio Emanuele reopened after a very long six years. Here comes the beauty: the construction site is at its maximum so that our historic center will return to being as attractive and strategic as it was in the vision of Mayor Mancini. And then they could enjoy the many cultural and musical events that are bringing Cosenza back to being the Athens of Calabria.”

“These are just some examples of works that are changing the face of the city, through public works worth around 130 million euros! There is still a lot to do, we are aware of it – concludes Turco – but thanks to the determination and vision of the administration led by Mayor Franz Caruso, we can get far because the strong lever that guides us is love for our city. ”
