“During the last municipal council, the Siena Democratic Party group presented a question regarding the cuts to the Municipality of Siena foreseen by the spending review for local authorities linked to the 2023 budget law, denouncing the paradoxical criterion adopted by the Meloni government for to which it will be precisely the municipalities that benefited most from the funding related to the PNRR that will be most penalized. Councilor Pagni shifted the focus of the issue to the search for culprits and responsibilities, without giving convincing answers. Faced with 1 and a half million cuts in 5 years, around 250,000 euros every year, the councilor downplayed it by saying that public expenses will be reduced, eliminating superfluous ones. With a proactive spirit and with the aim of providing answers to citizens, our hope was to encourage the administration to ask for the economic maneuver to be modified. Precisely because there were strong protests, the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi decided not to include the discussion of the decree in the agenda of the last meeting of the State-City Conference. We believe that the competent mayor and councilor have missed an opportunity to join the protests of many mayors of all political colors and attempt, also by virtue of the “privileged relationship” with the national government, to take action to exert pressure, so that the Municipality does not suffer further reductions in spending capacity, and significant cuts in economic resources necessary to provide quality services for citizens. “
