Donegani near “Gela Project”
Last hours available to the mayoral candidates who will compete in the runoff to formalize or not official ties. A choice of this type would mean expanding the family of coalitions to include lists and parties which until last week have not spared harsh attacks against one or the other coalition which, after the official political association, could gain one or two seats in more in the city council. Until a few hours ago it seemed to transpire that neither Grazia Cosentino nor Terenziano Di Stefano were interested in a solution of this type. The discussions continued this morning and the game is open until noon tomorrow. Di Stefano met Miguel Donegani and the technical-political partnership could begin.
For now, certainly, there is only the close political agreement between Filippo Franzone and Terenziano Di Stefano. The former candidate, together with his group, had set three fundamental programmatic points before going unbalanced on possible support. Respect for the referendum outcome for the transition of Gela to the metropolitan city of Catania, more protection for dams and water and provision of health services. The guarantees offered by Terenziano Di Stefano were the most convincing for Filippo Franzone who yesterday evening made his support for his former competitor official. Furthermore, he was designated councilor for economic development of the possible Di Stefano council.
The political agreement between the two parties sparked the reaction of some members of the Cosentino coalition, including DC commissioner Peppe Licata who accuses Franzone of inconsistency for having joined a system that he criticized until a few days ago. Meanwhile, the two candidates have reshaped their council. Terenziano Di Stefano brings in the new entries Viviana Altamore and Filippo Franzone. Change of outlook for the autonomists. Valeria Caci takes over from Rosario Caci. Confirmed are the five-star member Simone Morgana, the dem Giuseppe Arancio, Giuseppe Favitta, an expression of the communist party and Luigi Di Dio for Melfa in Action. Di Stefano, therefore, also kept the councilors as reference points for the lists that did not pass the threshold. The new entries in Grazia Cosentino’s coalition are the Forzista Nadia Gnoffo, the Christian Democrat Vincenzo Cascino and Daniele Sicolone.
