Before and after school service, the collection of parents’ signatures begins “Remain free”

Before and after school service in Piacenza, the collection of parents’ signatures begins as a sign of protest. There online petition, published on the Change.org platform, left in the late afternoon of June 14th. The request, understandably, is that the service remains free for families. A mobilization triggered by communication from schools at the end of the school year and which follows the decision of the Municipality of Piacenza to review the commitment of Auser volunteers first employed to support school activities. An activity that did not involve any contribution from parents, unlike what could happen starting from September 2024, upon returning to class.

Here are the reasons for collecting signatures:

“We are a group of parents from Piacenza, disappointed by the Municipality’s intention to eliminate, from the 2024-2025 school year, the before and after school service provided up to now almost free of charge by Auser volunteers to replace it with a service offered by other organisations, with an average incremental cost that should be around €400 per year per child” we read on Change.Org. “As usual, instead of making policies in favor of families, we dig into parents’ pockets. To say that there is no money, we believe, is hypocritical and indefensible. With all due respect to all the discussions on welfare, on the defense of the family and all the nice speeches on demographic decline, which quickly become waste paper. This petition aims to ask the Municipality of Piacenza to take a step back on this decision and to reconfirm the before and after school service as offered up to now. We believe that we cannot accept an anachronistic choice of this kind without making our voice heard. Please sign our petition and support our call to keep school costs manageable and affordable for all.”
