Ad acta commissioners have been appointed in almost 150 municipalities in Sicily due to failure to approve the 2024 budget forecast. The Councilor for Local Authorities, Andrea Messina, explained that this measure is necessary to urge all municipalities to approve the financial document within the established deadlines.

This year, the deadline for approving the budget was brought forward to March 15th. The absence of this document prevents administrations from operating correctly and providing timely services to citizens. The Councilor underlined that without the budget, many administrations will not be able to properly manage public spending, with repercussions on essential services such as education, transport and cleaning.

The words of Councilor Messina

“The ad acta commissioners will be installed in the various municipalities to solicit the non-compliant body, be it the municipal council or the municipal council. If delays and non-compliance persist, the commissioners will instead approve the respective budgets”Messina said.

This measure is mandatory according to state and regional legislation. “We have no interest in creating further difficulties for municipal administrations, but we too are called upon to respect the rules and carry out our role of control and supervision of local authorities”concluded the Councilor.

The appointment of ad acta commissioners aims to ensure that all municipalities can provide essential services to their citizens, despite administrative difficulties.
