Environmental Pollution in Terni: New Ordinance for Prisciano

The Environment Department of the Municipality of Terni announces that in order to protect public health the mayor Stefano Bandecchi signed a new ordinance of limitation of outdoor cultivation and breeding in the Prisciano area..
The current provision replaces the 2016 one and specifies the bans more precisely despite affecting the same areas.

All owners or users of the specified lands are ordered:
the ban on growing vegetables for human or animal consumption outdoors; these products can be grown for human or animal consumption only if they are constantly kept in a greenhouse for the entire cultivation period, until harvesting;
fruit products can also be grown outdoors, but with the obligation of thorough washing before consumption;
the ban on the outdoor breeding of animals intended for consumption.

We also invite all owners of land within the urban area of ​​Terni and outside the areas identified above, where intended for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, to adopt, as good hygienic-sanitary practice, thorough washing after harvesting or in any case before food consumption; to this end, we point out the procedure recommended by Ministry of Health.

These measures were necessary due to the persistence of environmental criticalities in the Prisciano area, as also highlighted by the Umbria 2 Local Health Authority, following the results of the monitoring carried out on food matrices of vegetal and animal origin with respect to pollution by dioxins, dioxin PCBs and similar and heavy metals.
