A courageous Modena takes home a precious point from Penzo di Venezia. The lagoon team goes ahead twice in the score, but Gerli’s feat and Palumbo’s tap-in restore parity. The canaries thus maintain eighth place, one point ahead of Brescia and Bari.
FIRST HALF. At 10′ Modena dangerous with Santoro, who kicks first time from outside and finds only the outside of the net. At 18′ the referee punishes a touch of the arm by Riccio in the area and awards a penalty to Venezia, the VAR takes it away because the defender hits the ball with his chest. After 5′ Seculin gets his gloves dirty on Pierini’s free kick, weak but dangerous. At 25′ Tessmann makes it 1-0 but is offside, the VAR confirms the assistant’s decision and it remains 0-0. The orange-black-green advantage arrives in a mocking way in the last action of the first half: punished with a penalty a swing by Battistella close to the penalty area defended by the yellow-blues, from eleven meters Pohjanpalo crosses, Seculin guesses but can’t reach it.
SECOND HALF. In the 14th minute of the second half Gliozzi almost scored a wonder goal, with a soft right-footed shot that grazed the top corner. The equaliser came two minutes later, Gerli started on the attack and scored from 25 metres with a curling shot to the near post. Venezia reacted with a dangerous cross from Zampano, with a superb Pergreffi who anticipated the onrushing Pierini. The home team took the lead again in the 26th minute, after Gytkjaer’s header Pohjanpalo got on the loose ball and beat Seculin with a powerful shot. But Modena didn’t give up and in the 32nd minute the score was level: Gliozzi was brought down in the area by Joronen, Palumbo saw his shot blocked from eleven metres but was quick to tap it back into the net for 2-2. In injury time (seven minutes allowed) there was room for a prodigious intervention by Seculin, who denied Bjarkason the 3-2.
