“Work and construction sites cannot become eternal, much less oppress a city which is already characterized by particularly complex and compromised roads; and, even when their implementation does not depend completely on the administration, the latter cannot stand by and watch but must intervene, within the limits of its possibilities, to protect its citizens”. This was declared by the council group leader of Oltre al Comune di Salerno, Donato Pessolano.
“On the occasion of the last meeting of the City Council, held on Thursday, I highlighted the chronic hardships that many Salerno residents have been forced to experience for some time due to the works for the installation of sound-absorbing panels along the slip road that connects the Salerno center junction to the Mediterranean A2, at the Fratte junction. In fact, the closure of the slow travel lane causes further inconvenience which adds to the chronic traffic problems that are encountered almost daily. The implementation of works of this type on road infrastructures is important but, given the negative repercussions for the area and its residents, it is essential that the Administration monitors with the utmost attention and presence. Furthermore, the mayor, in replying to my recommendation, highlighted that the situation is not the responsibility of the Municipality. I consider the response of the mayor to be absolutely insufficient and inadequate, taking into account that the severe slowdowns have repercussions on the city’s traffic, on the overall pollution levels and on the liveability of the people of Salerno, in particular those who live in the areas immediately adjacent to the motorway”.
“As the highest institution in our Municipality, the mayor promotes dialogue with the competent organizations and institutions, not only for this one, but also for other similar situations that may occur in the future, in order to allow the carrying out of the works in a less impactful way and in the shortest time possible”.
