Venice, three children between 11 and 13 years old devastate a carpentry shop: damage amounting to 100 thousand euros

Three boys aged 11, 12 and 13 years old on Saturday 8 June stormed the Girelli carpentry shop in the area of the Actv construction sites of Sant’Elena, in the heart of Venice, devastating it.

As reported by the Gazette and the New Venice they literally tore every room and object to pieces, taking everything with pickaxes and scarring them with swastikas. The damages were quantified at 100 thousand euros.

The three minors, all identified and reported, also set fire to material near barrels of chemical solvents, which fortunately did not catch fire, otherwise the young people could have lost their lives or been seriously burned.

A nightmare weekend

The three boys, says the owner of the company, Mauro Girelli, they would have entered on Saturday in the late afternoon, breaking the windows and devastating all the equipment, from PCs to furniture. An employee noticed the act of vandalism on Sunday morning because she had gone to check on a work item in the company. The police were informed but the owner, having arrived on site, soon realized that the vandals, not happy, had returned and were destroying the nearby warehouse with pickaxes.

The capture and the surprise

Surprised, the little criminals ran away, taking refuge in an attic, a dead end. They were thus stopped, identified – with great surprise given their young age – and now they will have to deal with the law. “In addition to the damage, a tragedy could have occurred because fires were started near highly flammable materials, which could explode if they caught fire. Considering everything, I am relieved that there was no physical damage to the three unfortunates”, admits Girelli but now he will have to roll up his sleeves and get the company back on track, the fruit of his life’s work.
