During the annual AIB campaign launched in Sicily on May 15th, even in the event of low danger, the pre-alert phase is declared, so the entire Region remains “orange” in these hours according to the emergency procedures established by the Civil Protection. In fact, the weather and climate conditions – increasingly muggy – and the humidity of the vegetable fuel are such as to generate a fire with high fire intensity and rapid propagation.
It is known that the Prefecture has brought together the provincial leaders of the police force, the fire brigade and the other components of the forest fire prevention system several times, in order to continue planning activities to prevent and combat the phenomenon of forest fires, of vegetation and interface in the provincial territory. In past years the flames have devastated various areas in Erice, Castellammare, San Vito, Marsala, etc. This is why municipalities immediately adopted ordinances to fight fires, such as cleaning even private land and avoiding lighting bonfires. Furthermore, the ASP has provided itself with a “Local Operational Plan for the prevention of the effects of Heat Waves – Summer 2024”, this also to prevent the negative effects of extreme climate phenomena.
