«I’ll kill myself under the train too»

“I want to end it like that woman under the train.” It is the desperate phrase of a Dominican woman, living in Montesilvano, mother of two children aged 14 and 7 and who gave birth to her third child a few days ago. Abandoned by her husband, who had lost the house she owned, sold at auction following foreclosure, she temporarily left her two children at a friend’s house to give birth to her third child in the Pescara hospital . In the hospital, despite the caesarean section and health problems encountered in the newborn girl, it would seem that she was discharged, inexplicably, ahead of her health conditions and that of the newborn because, explains the woman, «I am not resident in Italy and I do not have of health card”. The case was reported by the Dominican Association in Abruzzo, in the person of its president Nelly Peralta, who tried to find accommodation for the woman “left alone – she says – and without an adequate home for herself and her children”.

The Municipality of Montesilvano was made aware of the incident, which in the past had already supported, albeit temporarily, the entire family with hotel accommodation. The deputy mayor Paolo Cilli dealt with the matter personally: «I put the lady in contact with the social worker from the social emergency service, a service that we activated 24 hours a day, with whom an appointment was made on Monday morning. In the meantime – concludes the deputy mayor – you will be hosted by a volunteer from your reference association”.
