Posters with Cirio as Moro kidnapped by the Red Brigades, the Turin court acquits two young people: “It was a prank”

The posters where the governor of Piedmont Alberto Cirio was depicted as Aldo Moro, kidnapped by the Red Brigades, were “a joke” and “a joking joke”. This is what the Turin court writes – taking up the declarations of two other defendants, but who were admitted to the test – in the reasons for the sentence with which two of the defendants were acquitted. For two other defendants, the alleged crime (aggravated threats) was declared extinguished after the favorable outcome of a period of probation. The episode dates back to 30 September 2020, when the posters were found near the Askatasuna social center (which was not involved in the initiative). Most of the suspects were young and very young members of the autonomous university collective.

After being identified, the young people explained that they had found the photomontage of Cirio and Moro on the internet, that they had added the words “the cosplayers we want” and that they had created a poster “to make a mess”. In an article published by an area website (Volerelaluna), one of the defenders, the lawyer Claudio Novaro, recalls that Cirio was entrusted with an escort after the discovery of the posters and that the President of the Region himself commented on the event as follows: « Someone perhaps thinks of stopping Piedmont and the Piedmontese with intimidation. But, Aldo Moro taught us, “true freedom is lived with difficulty among constant pitfalls”. «Now – adds the lawyer ironically – the dangers can be considered over. All that remains is to notify President Cirio and the Central Joint Forces Office for Personal Security, responsible for maintaining the escort.” According to the lawyer, “in Turin, a further important function of the escort has been tested over the years, that of a driving force for the oversizing, in terms of public order, of phenomena linked to social conflict”.
