Paolo Carù, Buscadero journalist and owner of one of the best vinyl shops in the world, has died in Gallarate

According to the Guardian, his vinyl shop is one of the ten best in the world. We are talking about Paolo Carù, who died on Friday 14 June at the age of 77 in his Gallarate, where he lived and where he ran his shop in Piazza Garibaldi, inherited from his parents and made into an institution. Himself a collector of vinyl records, when they had gone “out of fashion”, supplanted by compact discs, then by mp3s and now by streaming, he had not stopped selling them.

Carù, in 1977, founded the magazine “Mucchio Selvaggio” in Rome, together with Max Stefani and Aldo Pedron. The three knew each other because they had previously worked together for “Suono”, the high fidelity magazine. With Pedron, in 1980, he founded the competing magazine “Buscadero”, for which he continued to work until his death.

“It is with unspeakable pain that we must unfortunately confirm the passing of Paolo Carù, founder and soul of the Buscadero”, we read on the magazine’s Facebook page: “At this moment we are all shocked and speechless. All we have to do is join the family and everyone you readers. We will have the opportunity to return to his incredible figure more calmly in the coming days”. There were many messages of condolence on social media from readers, fans and artists.

“A heartfelt hug from the Modena City Ramblers to everyone at the Buscadero, a piece of our life too”, writes Franco D’Aniello, musician of the Emilian band. “Entering Carù was like entering a museum… surrounded by vinyl records everywhere. A fantastic place!”, Writes a fan of his shop.

The mayor’s condolences

“The death of Paolo Carù is a serious loss for the whole of Gallarate”, stated the mayor Andrea Cassani: “In addition to the public side, that of the great music expert and editor of the Buscadero, as well as that of the legendary record shopkeeper, in recent months I have also been able to appreciate the human side since, due to his wife’s health problems, relationships necessarily became more frequent. He was very close to his wife Anna and that necessary separation, for her health, had put him to the test It leaves us speechless and is a serious loss for the family, for the city and for all music fans.”
