Portesani: “We want the heart of the city to be a large shopping centre, we will enhance our ‘arcades'”

CREMONA – “One of the founding points of the centre-right program is the revitalization of the heart of the city which is unfortunately now deserted due to the siege of supermarkets. For this reason we want to tell the citizens and operators of the center that for us the priority is to create the conditions for this part of Cremona to become a large shopping centre. And to do this we will also enhance our porticoes which are a point of great sociality for the people of Cremona”he says it today Alessandro Portesani combining the idea of the large shopping center with that of valorising these characteristic elements of Cremona.

“We have important proposals – explains Portesani -, starting with taxation: the IMU relief for property owners who decide to rent their buildings according to a fair rent that we as administration will establish. The revision of the limits and areas dedicated to the ZTL with a different regulation and agreed within a table in which representatives of the Municipality, economic categories and residents will sit. The creation of a control room – City Manager – which coordinates the various cultural offers already present in the city and which are currently unknown or undervalued, and which integrates the tourist and cultural offer of the city by returning to thinking about national and international events”.

“The attentive observer – explains the centre-right candidate – can see how from Piazza del Comune, Piazza Stradivari and up to the beginning of Corso Garibaldi – and Galleria Kennedy – and Via Manzoni – with the appendix of Piazza Marconi -, this l The element is absolutely a constant both in its ancient declination and in its modern and contemporary declination with various forms and structures. In all these years the element has been almost neglected. Only used in a fragmentary manner but without its overall and unitary systematization”.

“Our administration – explains Portesani – will want to systematize this element with various objectives: relaunch the commercial system of the many operators (fixed and itinerant) who have their activities located in this space. Transform them back into meeting centers for different generations of citizens (just think of what the Galleria XXV Aprile represented in the 70s and 80s for those then young generations; make them a showcase for violin making art (presence of the Consortium of violin makers) UNESCO intangible heritage; monitor the state of the homes to increase their commercial value and consequently the interest of investors”.

We must intervene quickly – concludes Portesani -. In the last decade, 123 businesses closed. Frightening percentages in the historic center where 30% of businesses have lowered their shutters without raising them again. According to Confcommercio Cremona, over 24% of traders have said goodbye to the profession”.
