CATANIA – Signage has been prepared and physical barriers have been placed to protect pedestrians. It is thus made effective and functional pedestrianization plan for Piazza Federico di Svevia and the road network of the areas surrounding the Ursino Castle.
Pedestrianisation, it should be remembered, was desired by the municipal council led by mayor Enrico Trantino, starting from the morning of Sunday 16 June. To celebrate the event on Sunday evening starting from 8.00 pm in the square of the Federico manor, there will be a free musical concert presented by the comedian Gino Astorina.
The contribution of local artists
It will be possible thanks to the contribution offered by artists from Catania: I Lautari, Mario Venuti, Rita Botto, Eleonora Bordonaro, the orchestra of the Angelo Musco Institute directed by Daniele Zappalà who with Gino Astorina accepted the mayor’s invitation.
For the occasion, the Fce noted an explicit request from Mayor Trantino on Sunday the Metro has arranged to make the last journey at one in the morning. A method that from next week will become stable on the evenings of every Friday and Saturday.
To make it easier to use the vast pedestrian area of Piazza Federico di Svevia, two zones have been determined. One with a 24-hour ban on cars and another with a closure to traffic limited to the evening and night hours on weekdays, without limits on pedestrian traffic hours only on holidays and Sundays.
The shuttle bus
The municipal administration has approximately 400 parking spaces reserved in the surrounding areas (via Zurria, piazza Borsellino, via Plebiscito, piazza Vaccarini and the area made available by the Port Authority with 145 additional places).
Furthermore, the Amts will guarantee a shuttle bus in the evening hours to connect the R1 car park in via Plebiscito and the neighboring piazza Vaccarini (79 stalls) with piazza Federico di Svevia. Furthermore, by order of the Trantino Council, the activation of telematic access control with cameras will take place with the installation of eight electronic gates.
The parking stalls
In the temporary pedestrian area, i.e. active only at night, there are also around a hundred parking stalls: from 7pm to 7am on weekdays and 0-24 on holidays, parking stalls reserved for residents only; hourly parking limited to 30 minutes is established from 7am to 7pm on weekdays (parking disc) for all vehicles except vehicles of residents displaying the pass.
The Metropolitana Trasporti e Sosta Catania SpA is entrusted with the service of issuing, to those entitled, of entry passes within the areas which will take place exclusively through the procedure online on a web platform.
Furthermore, in the event of transit due to urgent and unplannable needs of those not entitled, the possibility of regularizing access by sendingwithin 48 hours after passing through the pedestrian area, to the email address: [email protected] or by accessing the Amts web platform.
