It is the surreal and disconcerting scene that some passers-by found themselves in front of yesterday morning in Bologna, in via Barozzi. The request for help from those present at 118 was immediate and the subsequent intervention of the health workers, but when they arrived the woman had already given birth.
As reconstructed from the pages of Il Resto del Carlino, mother and child were then rescued and transported to the Maggiore hospital in Bologna where they were finally hospitalized in the Maternity ward. The newborn’s umbilical cord was removed and after the necessary checks, both are fortunately fine although obviously they remain hospitalized. The local police also intervened at the scene.
The woman, of Moroccan origin and about 30 years old, is a homeless woman and already known by street workers due to her drug addiction problems and the fact that she was pregnant. According to the Municipality of Bologna, she was also in the care of the Minors Protection Social Service due to a previous pregnancy but she was difficult to help because she had refused previous interventions and denied the pregnancy until the end.
