There is no date yet for the reopening of the Monteviasco cable car. Six years after the accident in which the maintenance worker lost his life, the timing of the resumption of activities is still uncertain.

The point was made this morning at Villa Recalcati in Varese. The Prefect Salvatore Pasquariello summoned the President of the Province of Varese Marco Magrini, the Mayor of the Municipality of Curiglia con Monteviasco Nora Sahanane, the President of the Local Public Transport Agency of Como Lecco and Varese John Gauls and representatives of the Lombardy Region and Ferrovienord.

Once again it was about an interlocutory meeting: « Friday of next week (June 21, ed.) we will also meet the cooperative in charge of the works to understand exactly the timetable – commented the Prefect who has been asking for news on the resumption of the cableway system since April 2023.

The time should now be ripe: the director of the Public Transport Agency engineer Colombo it leaves open the possibility of starting by the summer even if the technical times, including testing, are very tight.

Last year, the decision was made to identify a single operator for all 7 cableways in the areas of Varese, Como and Lecco, including that of Brunate and that of above Lecco which are certainly profitable and would guarantee integrated management and attractive economies of scale.
The tender is almost ready and the new management should start from January 1, 2025.
