Here it is again with its charm unchanged over time. Tomorrow evening, Saturday 15 June, the fiftieth edition of the San Giovanni night race will take place, the Cesena running race with the greatest charm. The celebratory t-shirt was designed by Romano Buratti, a painter from Cesena. This year there is something new: the arrival will be in Piazza della Libertà and no longer in front of Palazzo del Capitano. Nothing changes in the economy of the race, they are 150 meters less, but they are those in the heart of the nightlife and where even the slowest runners pushed hard to make a good impression in front of their friends crowded under the arcades of Corso Mazzini.
As usual, the departure will be at 8pm from Piazza della Libertà. Enzo Lattuca is also at the start, with his fresh reconfirmation as mayor of Cesena. He is unlikely to perform well, he hasn’t had much time to prepare in recent months. At his side once again Paolo Lucchi, his predecessor. Both will wear the black and white shirt of the Runners Solidali.
Up to Case Finali the route will be essentially flat. The hill in via Fiorenzuola cannot be considered an asperity. Then the almost three kilometers of light climb to Rio Marano. They are dangerous in case of headwind. Then His Majesty the Ridolfi, seven hundred meters very steep, unpaved and where it is not possible to catch your breath. Then the refueling, then the dive to Ponte Abbadesse passing through the Gessi Piccoli. At Ponte Abbadesse turn right and another two kilometers of flat land. He takes a breather at the Conad refueling station, a useful break to recharge in view of the climb up via Mondaini. Short, but “bad”. The worst is over. After passing through Porta Montanara (850 meters from the finish line) there is the descent of Via Malatesta with an uneven surface, and the last six hundred metres.
