“Total disagreement with the electoral strategy imposed by the provincial secretariat in Cortona and now it is useful to give your voters an indication of their vote in the run-off.”
This is said by Oberdan Carletti (in the photo), president of Italia Viva Valdichiana who remained in the shadows during this long electoral marathon which led Renzi’s party to choose to nominate Sara Baldetti for the seat of mayor of the Etruscan city. “I consider it essential to express my disagreement with the choices made by the provincial president of Italia Viva Gianni Ulivelli – explains Carletti – and I formally invite the voters of the party not to support the centre-right in the run-off”.
Carletti himself today recounts in great detail the path that led to his party’s choices in Cortona. “I was elected president of the Valdichiana area by the territorial congress in 2023. Until February, Italia Viva Cortona worked to build a reformist alternative in view of the local elections. The project envisaged a rapprochement with the socialists of Cortona, and developed also involving other party interlocutors. The idea was to federate reformists, liberals and radicals under the aegis of a civic list called ‘Cortona Tutti Torno’. However, we were informed by the provincial leaders that this project could not come to life; to follow was different, and vetoes were imposed on the possibility of presenting ourselves with the socialists. Despite being in total disagreement, I did not want to create tensions and, for the good of the party, I took a step back, excluded from the entire debate on the candidatures. and I had no say in any of the electoral decisions taken in Valdichiana, despite never having resigned from my role”. Carletti also recalls that the results “were merciless, the strategy adopted turned out to be clearly wrong, and during the electoral campaign some personal choices of individual candidates embarrassed everyone. Despite everything, it was not my intention to attack those responsible for this disaster , at least until Gianni Ulivelli made another unilateral decision, which in my opinion was profoundly wrong.” Today Carletti comes out into the open and formally asks as president of Italia Viva Cortona to support Vignini in the run-off.
