«The retail sector is in great difficulty, according to our findings every day 21 fashion shops in Italy close and 10 reopen, but of lower quality. For this reason we have developed a handbook that can guide good practices among the supply chain actors, but also stimulate the opening of stores by young people”. Giulio Fellonipresident of IMF-Italian Fashion Federation he explained this during a meeting dedicated to Pitti manthe launch of the new manual, the result of a survey carried out among traders across the country.

It collects good ethical and behavioral practices among suppliers, agents, representatives and shopkeepers. The volume also traces the economic moment of the sector, which after an average decline of 2.7% in 2023 for fashion sales, recorded a further decline in March and April of this year of 3.6% and 7% respectively. ,1%. We also read that in the last four years, Italian fashion retail has lost almost 17 thousand stores and more than 13 thousand employees.

«Participating in shows and visiting cities as much as possible is essential for setting up your stores. The historic centers need shops to be revitalized, the chains and discount stores have no attraction from a tourist point of view. When stores close, they also close to tourism”, continued the number one of the association. «There is an increase in prices and the consumer buys less because he often doesn’t even have the capacity to purchase. Furthermore, today he prefers to invest in food, wellness or travel. I hope that after this phase Italian fashion can really restart”, she then added MFF.

The handbook highlights above all the objective of arriving at a permanent discussion table with the entire supply chain, materialized in the proposal of a pact for the ethical supply chain at the fashion table at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy.

«During the last meeting in March we made several requests to the government, the first was at the culture table, since they want to create a Register of cultural and creative businesses, I proposed that the numerous historic shops of our territory be included. In the fashion sector, however, we asked for a reduction in rents, a reduction in VAT for fashion products and the possibility of deducting shopping done in the store, especially for workwear”, concluded Felloni.
