With only one defeat throughout the regular season, Futsal Mazara took first place in group H, gaining promotion to Serie A2. Having set out with the aim of playing a calm championship, the boys of Enzo Bruno they exceeded every rosiest expectation, maintaining clarity even in the last few days despite the pressure of an ever-closer finish line. The Sicilian club is already working to plan next season and the coach is convinced that a few additions will be enough to fill the gap with the new category.
You experienced an incredible season culminating with promotion, what emotions did you feel in achieving this goal?
“The satisfaction is enormous because it was a totally unexpected promotion. It was a splendid season in which we grew constantly in all components, from the field to the stands, thanks to the passion of the environment. We didn’t start with this objective and the recklessness of not necessarily having to bring home the result also helped us. The team gained awareness day after day demonstrating a great mentality. We only felt the pressure in the last few games, as the objective was one step away and could have vanished at any moment but we did well not to make any mistakes.”
At what point did you realize you could aim for the title? What were the most important matches?
“All the matches were decisive but obviously there were some that gave us great awareness of our capabilities, such as the two away matches in Soverato or the draw in Barcelona achieved after finishing the first half four goals down. In the second round, there was also a narrow success in Adrano and a draw in Marsala. After that match we understood that we could achieve more than we had planned and hoped for before.”
Are you already thinking about next season? What does the team need to confirm itself in the new category?
“We are working continuously to try to improve our roster and to find sponsors who are our beating heart. Obviously we are first and foremost trying to close agreements with the protagonists of this season, the locals and Felipe who is now family for us. The idea is to insert some element of experience, which knowing the category can help us face such a difficult championship without making a bad impression”
