Rovigo elections: The Democratic Party is counting on Gaffeo’s victory

ROVIGO – From the Polesine group Generazione Pd there is no doubt that the Democratic Party must support Edoardo Gaffeo’s re-election as mayor of Rovigo with an “Full speed ahead”.

“The vote on 8-9 June in the Rovigo municipal elections decreed what we have long supported: a rift between the leaders of the Democratic Party and its own members and voters. The difference in consensus that emerged between the European and municipal elections certifies that it was logical to work from the beginning on the re-candidacy of the outgoing mayor Gaffeo” declare from Generazione Pd.

“Unfortunately, a minority of deaf leaders wanted to do their own thing without listening to anyone, going so far as to sacrifice the figure of an esteemed professional such as the lawyer Palmiro Franco Tosini, to whom we credit the only serious post-vote analysis on the absence of consensus for the municipal list of the Democratic Party, and resting on his laurels for having won a vacant seat in the Roman parliament.

Rovigo has an important future to face, the complicated choices made by Mayor Gaffeo and his administration to untie historical knots, created in the past by the right, are a starting point for relaunching serious government action. Our capital must continue to be the driving force of the Polesine municipalities, and also of all the new administrations that took office in the last electoral round.

As the “Generations” political group, given our strong affiliation to the Polesine Democratic Party, we launch a heartfelt appeal to the citizens of Rovigo, to members, militants, supporters and voters of the current Democratic Party: vote for Gaffeo in the runoff!

The important challenge will be to bring back to the polls those who have already voted and convince even those who abstained and undecided to support Edoardo Gaffeo’s project for the city and the coalition candidates. In this regard, we believe that the local Democratic Party and its leaders must, without hesitation, pursue this path, completely abandoning the losing divisionist line undertaken so far without any real political but merely personal reason, leaving aside the “principle of the autonomy of the clubs” which , in the past, did not prevent the current provincial secretary from intervening several times with a straight leg against the outgoing municipal administration, bypassing the PD council group”.
